Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

The repair of heating cables is possible. There are special repair kits available from local stock list.

For the fixation of tiles or stones on T2Reflecta plates, the T2Reflecta Adhesive is mandatory.  However, some natural stones, like marble, are color sensitive and should not be used to avoid spots of color changes in a finished floor. Advise on color sensitivity of natural stones can be obtained in the tile shop.

No, the cable must not be separated, shortened or extended. Only the mains lead can be cut.

In order to be able to exchange the sensor in case of a failure, the sensor should be installed in a flexible tube.  QuickNet packs include a flexible tubing. A 2.5 meter flexible tube with 10 mm diameter can be ordered also separately at nVent Thermal Management (reference number:  6012-8949541)  The conduit needs to be installed just under the tile surface and therefore might need to be partially engraved in the sub floor. In case T2Reflecta plates are used, the conduit is installed in a cut away slot between two T2Reflecta plates.   The sensor should be positioned centrally between the two heater runs. The sensor tip needs to be installed minimum 50cm from the wall area in order to prevent unreliable floor temperature measurements (for example measurement under a cupboard).

No, it is particularly important that T2Reflecta adhesive is used to stick the times!  We only give a warranty with the use of the T2 adhesive, as this has been developed to provide a high level of adhesion between aluminium and the tile.  nVent Thermal Management cannot guarantee the adhesive qualities of alternative products.

The system can be controlled throughout a thermostat with a space or floor sensor.  An ambient thermostat if energy saving is a priority, but the floor can remain partially cold.  A floor thermostat - sensible if the comfort of a warm floor is most important. A combination of the two is naturally the ideal solution.

If you have a poorly insulated floor or if you want a fast heat-up of the floor or a higher temperature, choose T2QuickNet- Plus-160.

No, T2QuickNet may only be employed in a completely flat, enclosed material. T2Reflecta is the correct system for this application, as it is a self-regulating system with no risk of overheating and damaging the temperature sensitive floor.

T2FloorTemp and T2DuoTemp have a maximum power load of 16 A.

The sensor should be installed in the centre between two cables. The sensor can be installed in a plastic/ Cu tube Ø 10 -12 mm between two T2Reflecta plates. Wall spacing approximately 0.5 m. The laying however can also be carried out in a free slot of the heating cable.

For comfort and energy saving reasons, we recommend to use the RAYCHEM NRG-Temp thermostat. The T2Red self-regulating heating cable requires an inrush current at start up. The NRG-Temp has been designed to withstand this inrush current. If another thermostat is used and the switching capacity of the thermostat is less than 13A, the heating system should be switched on through a contactor.

T2Reflecta adhesive needs approximately 4 hours to set and can then be worked on again.  Comment: the adhesive may not be used as a mortar for a thin bedding. It is an adhesive.

If the cable is a self-regulating cable like the T2Red, it can be crossed or 2 cable runs can be positioned close to each other.
If the cable is a constant wattage cable like the QuickNet, the T2Blue or the CeraPro, the cable must not be crossed, 2 cable runs must not be positioned too close to each other and the cable must not be substantially sealed.

Floor sensing gives a much more stable floor temperature. With ambient sensing it might be possible that the floor temperature varies too much which might give the customer the feeling that the floor heating doesn?t work right. With floor sensing the floor temperature will be nice and stable. T2 floor heating systems are ?thin? systems with a heating element installed close to the floor surface. T2 systems react quickly compared to a ?thick construction? floor heating system which typically has a high mass and therefore a high inertia and slowness. Therefore the thermostat with floor sensor gives a more efficient , fast control and stable temperature over the floor heating. The floor heating sensor is ideal for rooms which have several heat sources. For example a bathroom with a combination of floor heating and a towel heater. In order to have an efficient operation of the floor heating with less influence from the towel heater, the floor sensor gives the better control option because it measures only the floor temperature.

EM2-XR is a self-regulating heating cable designed to clear ice and snow from outdoor ground surfaces (ramps, walkways, stairways, etc). The power output of EM2-XR in a concrete slab is: 105 W/m at -15°C, 100 W/m at -10°C, 95 W/m at -5°C and 90 W/m at 0°C.

Yes, the braid clip is separately available. Ordering number is SFB-RC2-BRAID-CLIP.

No. The outer jacket of the cable doesn't withstand the chemicals in oil.

No, the RAYCHEM frost protection heating cable is only intended for fixed installations.

Yes, if the maximum circuit length is not exceeded. The maximum circuit length of the system is the shortest maximum circuit lenght of the connected heating cables.

No. The heating cable's power output is too low.

Yes. RAYCHEM requires the use of 30 mA residual current device.

NO!!, this will create a short circuit! Install a RayClic-E-02 end seal.

No, the AT-TS-13 and AT-TS-14 thermostats can switch multiple circuits. The maximum circuit length depends on the switching capacity (16A for the AT-TS-13/14). If the different heating circuits are located in areas with different ambient temperatures (e.g. buried pipes and pipes in open air), it is recommended to use different thermostats.

When the heating cable is powered, touch the heating cable after a few minutes. It will feel warm.

Use cable ties or glass-fibre adhesive tape. For plastic pipes, use ATE-180 aluminium adhesive tape and apply it over the entire length of the heating cable.

According the pulse-train principle: a certain number of 'full waves' are put through and a certain number are stopped. The more of the 'full waves', the more power is put through.

The electrical connection in the RayClic device is made by a 'knife' that cuts through the electrical insulation of the heating cable. This system is called 'insulation displacement

No, for frost protection, RAYCHEM offers the frost protection  heating cables FS.

Check the system: - is the HWAT-ECO control unit correctly installed? - is the right insulation correctly installed? - check the settings of the HWAT-ECO control unit. Adjust if needed. - check that the maintain temperature is minimum 5øC lower than the boiler temperature

The heating cables must be stored in a dry and clean place. Protect the cable ends with an end seal. Temperature range: +40øC to +60øC.

No, the HWAT heating cable is installed in a straight line on the pipework.

The timer can be used for switching off the system if no HWAT-ECO control unit is used. The HWAT-ECO incorporates the functions of the QWT 05 timer.
